Working Group: Sustainable Consuming

Sustainable ConsumingThe working group on sustainable consuming will look at, amongst others, the consumption of food, and other products and services by the final consumers. For example, the products services consumed by individuals and households, such as clothes or hairdresser visits, which are not directly related to other working groups. The consumption of food in particular, is of importance from an environmental perspective. When it comes to food and health, however, there still remains a lack of knowledge and consensus about what constitutes a sustainable and healthy lifestyle and diet. This is coupled with a lack of understanding about the effectiveness of existing and up-and-coming tools, like carbon labeling, employed, for example, by retailers. Finally there is a need to investigate more direct paths of interaction between producer and consumer, so as to shorten the food chain and encourage more sustainable and local means of production.

This working group will also take into consideration the different geographical and cultural contexts related to food and other products and services. It will also focus on cross-cutting issues relating to the other working groups.
